Submissions Now Open: photoED Magazine Issue #73 – Pushing the Boundaries of Photography: MELD
- Submissions for photoED Magazine Issue #73 – MELD are now open until Friday, February 14, 2025, 11:59 EST.
- This special edition will feature photography that blends ideas, tools, and technologies into bold new visual statements.
- This is photoED Magazine’s first international Call for Submissions, supported by the Government of Canada.
- photoED magazine’s curatorial team will select 10 artist projects to be featured in the print and digital replica edition, with 25 additional artists showcased in a free-access Digital Extra companion edition.
Submissions are now open to emerging and professional fine art photographers worldwide. This issue will showcase those who dare to merge ideas, tools, and technologies to craft powerful, innovative artistic statements.
Since 2001, photoED Magazine has championed lens-based storytelling, featuring acclaimed Canadian artists such as June Clark, Edward Burtynsky, and Laurence Philomène, to name only a few. With this special edition, photoED aims to expand its mission globally, celebrating diverse voices in contemporary photography in a brand-new light. Print publishing is a unique and rare privilege that offers artists a legacy document of their work and story.

Eligibility:
Submissions are open to photographers worldwide (excluding residents of Russia, Belarus, and sanctioned countries such as Cuba, Iran, and North Korea). Entrants must hold a valid photoED Magazine print or digital subscription or be a current Patreon patron.
Economically challenged artists may request a subscription fee exemption to ensure accessibility for all. Contact: rita@photoED.ca
Submission Guidelines:
- Up to 8 images per entry
- Fine art and original work only—no stock photography
- Submissions are juried by photoED’s Volunteer Curatorial Editorial Board
- Seeking diverse interpretations of the theme “MELD.” Works may include digital manipulation, analog processes, installation art, and/or any interpretations of the idea of photography as a creative blender

“MELD” invites photographers to push boundaries, blending ideas, tools, and creative processes to craft bold new visual narratives. “MELD” means to merge, combine, or mash-up – photography as a creative blender. The edition celebrates process-driven artistry, showcasing work that inspires conversations about innovation in photography.

Submitting to photoED Magazine does not transfer any rights of ownership — the photographer retains full rights. We do not ask for exclusivity and the photographer is free to submit the image to any other publication, project or exhibition. The owner of the photograph allows us the rights to publish and promote their work, with credit, on our print and digital platforms. By submitting their work, the photographer acknowledges that they have full rights to the images and has obtained proper releases where warranted.
