In Love and In Art
Jim Reid, Gina Rorai, Peggy Taylor Reid, and David Urban

November 23, 2024 – April 6, 2025
Curated by Sharona Adamowicz-Clements

Drawn from the permanent collection, works by two contemporary artist couples: Jim Reid and Peggy Taylor Reid as well as Gina Rorai and David Urban will focus on moments in the artists’ creative development and consider what stylistic parallels or thematic crossovers may arise. What advantages do artist couples experience when they share a profession and a life?

In Love and In Art considers the artmaking of artists in intimate and long-term relationships, and questions whether that may have an impact on the trajectory of the individual artist’s practice.

David Blackwood: Ode to Newfoundland

November 23, 2024 – March 23, 2025
Curated by Sharona Adamowicz-Clements

A recent acquisition of works on paper from local collectors Carol Dickson and Dr. David Dickson, by nationally acclaimed artist, the late David Blackwood will be on view in David Blackwood: Ode to Newfoundland. The works consist of the famed dark and moody intaglio prints of the seafaring communities of Newfoundland’s yesteryear with which Blackwood was closely familiar, including The Lost Party series that recounts the tragic story of seal hunters trapped in ice, as well as watercolour landscape paintings of the artist’s beloved province.

This exhibition recognizes the seminal role that donors play in shaping the permanent collection and the value of relationship building between collectors and PAMA.

Meegan Lim: Apple a Day

November 21, 2024 – March 30, 2025
Curated by Sharona Adamowicz-Clements

Brampton-based emerging artist Meegan Lim’s Apple a Day draws attention to food insecurity in today’s economic reality of high inflation and rising costs of living. Reminiscent of the fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk, her colourful illustration of people competing to climb a massive, tall tree crowned by an encased golden apple shows life’s constant struggle to reach the top of the metaphorical financial ladder. But there is hope through ingenuity in resource finding and sharing so all have a chance to achieve the prescribed goal of a healthy lifestyle and have their apple a day.

In partnership with Brampton Arts Organization (BAO), this exhibition will be presented on PAMA’s outdoor banners.
