Fall 2024 Programming at the Aurora Cultural Centre

The Aurora Cultural Centre has returned home to our beloved heritage schoolhouse location, now part of the larger cultural ecosystem of Aurora Town Square. We are thrilled to open this chapter with three exhibitions: Expressions of Critical Thought, Camp Retrospective, and The Living Corridor, a temporary mural by Annwin Arts and Joaquin Varela. Our re-opening comes with a range of artist-centered events including Open Studio, Artist-Poet Gatherings, Crit Club, and two paid artist residency opportunities. Beyond our galleries, AR-activated banners as part of a public art project, Future Grounds, are scattered throughout Aurora Town Square.

Expressions of Critical Thought

September 21 – November 16, 2024
Homeroom Galleries

Critical thinking empowers us to question, interpret, evaluate, and make judgments about what we read, hear, say, or write. It compels us to process personal and universal crises, and challenge systems of power when they tear at the fabric of peaceful co-existence.

The underlying essence of this exhibition is to collect, build in common, and bring together fragmented expressions of critical thought. Through painting, installation, performance, and more, several artists have come together to examine how the personal and political intersect. The artists in this exhibition include Hala Alsalman, Vridhhi Chaudhry, Alberto Castillo, Emerald Repard-Denniston, Chantal Hassard, and Renaissance. Curated by Carousel Collective.

Hala Alsalman Artist Talk (Virtual): Wednesday, October 23, 1 – 2pm (registration required)

Exhibition Activation Day:
