Call for Professional Advisory Council Members at Sheridan College

Call for Professional Advisory Council Members
Faculty of Animation, Arts, and Design
Sheridan College

Sheridan College is seeking individuals from diverse backgrounds to serve as members on our Professional Advisory Councils across the Faculty of Animation, Arts, and Design.

Background

The work of Professional Advisory Councils (PACs) is a requirement in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act (2002) to strengthen programming through direct connections to industry, academic, and business colleagues. Successful PACs provide strategic advice and input in the review of a program and help the College respond to changing academic, business and industry requirements. PACs help ensure that our programs stay relevant to the needs within the community and anticipate future trends. Councils’ perspectives help to ensure that new and existing programs are relevant and curricula are up to date so that graduates will possess the skills and competencies required by employers in the current and future labour markets. This approach aligns tightly with Sheridan’s new strategic plan, Sheridan 2027: Forging the Future, released in May 2024.

The Opportunity

Sheridan’s Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design (FAAD) is Canada’s largest media, art, and design school, internationally recognized for outstanding programs in performance, animation, filmmaking, design, and material arts. With over 5,000 students across 36 programs, FAAD represents a diverse and comprehensive set of disciplines in the creative sector space. As a PAC member, you would help inform direction across a wide array of program areas and initiatives through your background and expertise. Topics for discussion would include emerging business, technology, artistic practice, and cultural trends. Advisory Council members can expect to comment on program curriculum related to their expertise.

Advisory Council members can come from any creative discipline in any form of practice. Program areas include:

  • Screen based: animation, video games, visual effects, filmmaking, film production, interactive media design
  • Media: journalism, public relations, special effects makeup,
  • Image arts and design: Photography, illustration, graphic design, product design,
  • Performance: theatre performance, theatre production, music performance, music scoring
  • Visual arts: crafts, studio arts, visual merchandising

Also welcome are those from entrepreneurial and business perspectives to contribute to knowledge on emergent models for graduate career readiness. There is no geographical limit for advisory council members, and FAAD welcomes perspectives from regions across Canada and around the world.

Selected advisory members can expect to meet with Sheridan faculty and staff twice each year via videoconference and receive occasional email communications on relevant updates. The full framework and terms for advisory members can be found here.
