Finding Freedom: The Joshua Glover Story
Finding Freedom: The Joshua Glover Story
A dramatic first person performance exploring the extraordinary true story of Joshua Glover, an escaped slave who utilized the Underground Railroad, found his way to Upper Canada and Montgomery’s Inn where he lived and worked until he died. The show is performed by Dora-nominated actor Dienye Waboso, who explores the story of Glover through theatrical medium. Visitors will be able to participate in singing a Negro spiritual, learn about clothing and artefacts of that time period and taste peanut cake, an example of a staple in the slaves’ diet. Montgomery’s Inn is one of 10 Toronto History Museums which explore where Toronto’s many pasts, presents and futures meet. The museum highlights the historical role played by the inn as a tavern, farm, local gathering place and community hub in the development and history of Etobicoke.
