The Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB) is an award-winning, public art gallery and community art centre situated in downtown Burlington, Ontario. Founded in 1975 for the purpose of creating a professional and social space to promote, protect and grow arts and crafts in Canada, the AGB continues to be an integral part of the community, and is home to the world’s largest collection of contemporary Canadian ceramics.

The Opportunity
The AGB is currently in a stage of foundational evolution and is looking to recruit an Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization through this exciting transformation. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will play an integral role in the creation of a new strategic plan, work collaboratively to advance the AGB’s mission and vision, and will support the long-term vitality, relevance, impact and sustainability of the organization. The ED will provide strong leadership to the staff team, with accountability for human resources, fund development, financial management, and all program and service-related activities, ensuring effective and efficient operations.

About You
The ED role at the AGB requires a strategic, visionary leader with demonstrated ability to advance an organization and build team capacity and engagement. The preferred candidate brings 7+ years of non-profit organizational leadership experience in a role with significant responsibility for operations, revenue growth and results, preferably with an understanding and appreciation of the arts sector and/or Canadian contemporary art and craft.

The preferred candidate is an outstanding communicator and proven collaborator, who is comfortable serving as an organization’s spokesperson. With a passion for deepening the AGB’s impact in the local community and beyond, the candidate sought is adept at building strategic stakeholder and funding relationships with various groups (such as government, sponsors, individual donors, private sector, the public, the Board, and arts-based organizations), to advance the AGB’s position as the primary destination for innovative arts education, programs and services, both within and beyond the Burlington community. A Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Business, Management, Education, or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education is required. This full-time position will be based out of the AGB, located in Burlington, Ontario.

The Art Gallery of Burlington offers a competitive salary for this Executive Director position commensurate with experience. The target hiring range for this role is $125,000 – $159,999.
