Elegoa Cultural Productions is seeking a:

Position: Event/program Coordinator
Job Type: Contract – 18 hours / week / 3 consecutive days
Dates: June 25 –December 31, 2019 – including a 3-day full time for event ground support on December 5, 6 and 7.
Remuneration: 20 to 25CAD / hour (based on skills and experience)

Founded in 2012 and based in Toronto, Elegoa Cultural Productions is a social enterprise for artistic production that advances the development of creative and socially active individuals and communities internationally. Event/program Coordinator

The Event/program Coordinator will work closely with Elegoa’s Director/Curator to implement up-coming programmes in 2019/2020 and their marketing.

The Event/program Coordinator will be significantly involved in the administration, planning, coordination and marketing of a three-day international event/symposium to be held at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) on December 5, 6 and 7, 2019. He/she/they will liaise with AGO related staff.

Inspired by the poetry and philosophy of Martiniquan writer Edouard Glissant, this international event is an attempt to generate poetics of relation from Toronto’s current political and artistic context toward “le Tout-Monde” (The Whole-World). In a time where borders and walls are erected and war seems endless, artists, thinkers, poets and dancers are taking up the work of Glissant. Over three days and including participating members of the public, they will present interactive, project based engaging ways of exchanging knowledge and build bridges.

The event is co-presented by Elegoa Cultural Productions and the Art Gallery of Ontario. It is funded for its main part by the Canada Council for the Arts, through the Sector Innovation and Development program (for Cultural Connector working in minority language situation in Canada). The curatorial process is lead in collaboration with artists by Catherine Sicot (Elegoa), Wanda Nanibush (AGO) and Pamela Edmonds (McMaster Museum).

Additional occasional support to other Elegoa programs will include: some assistance in the coordination of two up-coming exhibitions – fall 2019 in Markham and spring 2020 in Toronto – some contribution to research – for an international series of residencies and conversations exploring public and private processes of collecting (2020 on) – some assistance to general marketing and to grant writing.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Organizing and managing event plans and budgets
  • Liaising with event participants, partners and curators
  • Designing and coordinating the promotion of the event to local and international art communities through print media, social media, presentations and email correspondences in conjunction with AGO staff
  • Assisting in the editing and development of other programs’ marketing materials
  • Managing website and social media campaigns & comment forums (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) – including up-loading written content, images and videos
  • Coordinate flights, accommodations and other aspects of event planning.
  • Assisting with grant writing

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Previous successful administrative experience with minimum 2 years direct related event industry experience
  • College/University studies or equivalent experience in an art related field with a demonstrated experience in art administration and project management, including budget management
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong capacity to work independently and to understand the conditions of working in small/non institutional context and to sometime work remotely
  • Ability to understand priorities of the organization and schedule tasks accordingly
  • Specific computer skills: MS Office/Open Office and minimum graphic design skills
  • The ability to be professional and diplomatic at all times
  • Experience working with diverse communities, being mindful and respectful of diverse cultures, religions, abilities, etc.
  • Genuine commitment to principles of equity, cultural diversity and broadening access to and experience of the arts
  • Fluency in several languages is an asset
