Call for Submissions: Annual Juried Exhibition 2022

This exhibition offers artists working in all media the opportunity to have their work evaluated by three visual art professionals serving as jurors. The public can discover a variety of work exploring ideas and themes by contemporary artists from all over Ontario.

Meet our jurors for 2022…

Georgia Fullerton is a Jamaican Canadian practising visual artist, expressive arts therapist, arts educator, and public speaker. Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts at York University in 1990, Georgia is a board director on the acquisitions committee of the largest contemporary art museum in Oshawa, Ontario – the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. As an arts professional working closely with communities, she also sits on the Program Advisory Committee for the School of Media Art and Design at Durham College (Oshawa, Ontario). Georgia has exhibited across Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean; with many of her works in private collections. Engaging all sides of her creative prowess, she deepens her understanding and practise of therapeutic arts as a Counsellor and Expressive Arts Therapist in her private practise. Georgia creates abstract expressionist artworks at her home studio in Ajax, Ontario.

Tyler Durbano (he/they) is a queer visual artist and cultural worker based in Treaty 16 territory/Barrie, Ontario. They received an MFA from the University of Western Ontario, a BA from Acadia University and a BFA from NSCAD University. Tyler has exhibited throughout Ontario, Nova Scotia and abroad, including Eyelevel Gallery, Anna Leonowens Gallery, Forest City Gallery, and Quest Art Gallery. In 2014, they completed a year-long community studio residency with the Town of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and in 2018 they won the Juror’s Prize for Innovation during the inaugural TD Wealth | Thor Wealth Management Art Prize. Tyler is the Assistant Curator at MacLaren Art Centre.

Yasmin Nurming-Por is a curator based in Hamilton, Canada. She has held curatorial and research positions at Sheridan College, Images Festival, Art Gallery of Ontario and Walter Phillips Gallery amongst others. Recent independent projects include the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, DC), Alberta Foundation for the Arts (Edmonton, AB), Art Gallery of Guelph (ON), Video Pool (Winnipeg, MB), grunt gallery (Vancouver, BC), aka artist run (Saskatoon, SK), and Trinity Square Video (Toronto, ON). She is a member of international research group Lower Frequencies which explores the roles of socially-engaged practices in the public sphere. Her current research centres on the roles of permanent collections as tied to nationalism in the settler-colonial and post-colonial societies of the former British Empire.

Exhibition Dates: Friday March 25th – Saturday, April 23rd, 2022

All 2022 AJE Submissions will be submitted online by filling out the application below. If your work is selected to be included in the exhibition, you will be asked to bring your artwork to Latcham Art Centre.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Open to all artists living in Ontario, working in any media (including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media, fiber arts and others).
  • A maximum of two recent (2020, 2021, or 2022) original works may be submitted by each artist. All shipping arrangements and associated costs are the responsibility of the artist.
  • All work must be ready for exhibition. Please ensure all hanging hardware is included on the artwork, if needed.
  • Do not submit work that is not dry. Any damage resulting from such work will be the financial responsibility of the artist.
  • Size limitations: Works must be able to fit through an entrance of 34” wide x 81” high. Sculptures should be a weight that can easily be handled by 2 people.
  • Work previously exhibited at Latcham Art Centre or created under instruction is not eligible.
  • Any technical needs for work must be provided by artist.
  • A non-refundable fee of $20.00 per artist must accompany the entry form (see below).

Call for Submissions: Emerging Artists Under 30 – 2022 Exhibition

Latcham Art Centre is welcoming submissions from emerging artists aged 30 and under for a 2022 group exhibition. This call includes a variety of media including painting, drawing, mixed media, photography and video. LAC has 105 running feet and a space of approximately 1,100 square feet.

Submission Deadline: April 4th, 2022.
Exhibition Dates: Friday July 8th – Saturday August 27th, 2022.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Open to all artists aged 30 and under living in Ontario, working in any media (including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media, fiber arts and others).
  • Size limitations: Works must be able to fit through an entrance of 34” wide x 81” high. Sculptures should be a weight that can easily be handled by 2 people.
  • Any technical needs for artwork must be provided by artist in Image List.
  • If selected, all shipping arrangements and associated costs are the responsibility of the artist.

Your application form will include:

  • An artist statement (maximum 500 words)
  • A current CV
  • Maximum 10 images (jpg format) or video excerpts
  • Image list with the title, medium, and size of artwork
