Community Art Project with Oskāyak High School 2023

The City of Saskatoon invites visual artists and/or teams who specialize in sculpture to submit proposals for a community art installation on an empty plinth at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Main Street in Saskatoon next to Oskāyak High School – an Indigenous high school with a long and established history within the Broadway area and Saskatoon.

Artist/team will lead a collaborative design process in the spirit of truth and reconciliation between the artist/team and Oskāyak High School community. The design process will be collaborative and conducted in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. The process will be documented by Oskāyak student body who will produce a written documentation of the process and outcome.

The artist/team must demonstrate a connection to local First Nations or Métis community of lead artist and/or team members and develop a methodology for conducting the collaborative design process as part of the submission.

The artist/team can expect to work closely with Oskāyak High School students (max. 25 students) in the design of the sculpture with the expectation that the students will heavily contribute to the overall design or, at a minimum, significant aspects of the design.

Budget: $32,500. Optional lighting paid by the City.

Deadline to Apply: October 6, 2023, 2pm – late proposals will not be accepted.
