Call for Applications: newlocation

A hybrid artist residency program

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: newlocation, a hybrid artist residency program

What if we were to begin from a new location?
When you set-out from a new location, you ask different questions.
When you ask different questions, you go to different places.

Welcome to newlocation
a process focused community experience for artists and creative practitioners.

Are you looking for a home for your inquiry?
Do you want to deepen your relationship with your creative process and to be able to articulate it to others?
Are you drawn to meaning-filled connections that are rich in curiosity and dialogue?
Do you long to discover a greater context for your practice?

We have prepared a space for you.

Through a hybrid combination of facilitated conversations, open dialogue, critique and coaching, newlocation offers forward-thinking creative practitioners an opportunity to contemplate, articulate and initiate transformative ways of being in the world.

Join us in shaping a reflective community of practice that nurtures creative inquiry and process.

We welcome applications from Canadian artists and creative practitioners of any discipline or practice at any stage in their career. We are particularly interested in and encourage applications from equity-seeking community members, including racialized and Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.

newlocation begins February 2023 and runs through to November 2023.
Over 10 months you will have the opportunity to participate in:

  • Virtual creative dialogues with special guest artists
  • An in-person retreat for all participants taking place August 1-3, 2023
  • Virtual peer group sessions with opportunity to present and receive feedback on your works-in-process
  • Virtual personal coaching sessions with experienced mentor coaches

There will be regular online monthly sessions as well as the in-person retreat. Time commitment varies, however, be prepared to commit 2-3 hours per month. We recognize things come up from time to time, however, we ask that participants reserve time in their schedules to attend all sessions.

There is no fee to participate in this program. It is generously supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and our partners at the Fabulous Festival of Fringe Film.

Meals, lodging and a travel subsidy to cover transportation costs will be provided for the in-person retreat.
