Bowmanville Public Art Project RFP

The Municipality of Clarington is seeking professional Artists to create a public artwork or a series of public artworks. Potential works may include but are not limited to murals, wall sculptures, or Trompe-l’œil to be located on the wall(s) within the downtown area of Bowmanville, mainly along King Street.

The Municipality of Clarington recognizes the role of public art in the beautification, and enjoyment of public spaces. This public art project should reflect on the history and future of the Bowmanville community, in an engaging and thought-provoking way to enliven the experience of the downtown area for both residents and visitors.

The artwork created through this RFP will contribute to an artistic walking tour to be developed by the Municipality to promote wayfinding and learning by leading residents and visitors through the main street area of Bowmanville. The existing murals in the main street area will also form part of this visual walking tour.

Artists will be selected by a Jury through a one-stage process based upon their submission, which will include a description of approach, detailed project proposal, visual documentation, a fabrication and maintenance strategy, and a resume and portfolio. The funding for this project was obtained through a grant. Proposed artwork should not exceed $20,000 (including applicable taxes).

Clarington is a municipality consisting of the urban communities of Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, and Orono, along with 13 hamlets throughout its vibrant countryside.

Bowmanville’s main street is much more than a historic Ontario downtown. It is nestled between two valleys, and provides shopping opportunities from the traditional to trendy.
