Show Your Work at the 10th Annual DesignTO Festival, January 17-26, 2020

The DesignTO Festival brings people together to celebrate contemporary design across the city January 17-26, 2020.

Join the Festival to become a part of an exciting network of creative people, exhibitions, events, and a captive audience of designers and design-lovers. Last year the Festival had 100+ events and exhibitions across the city with 150K+ visitors. From design talks to experimental installations, prototypes to opening parties and curated exhibitions, the Festival featured the work of over 600 artists and designers.

5 Ways to Participate

1. Apply to our Guest Artist and Designer Program

Deadline: Friday, September 13, 2019

This is for you if:
You are a designer or artist who is looking for a free venue for your exhibition, event, or window installation.

Benefits include:
Selecting from a great range of over 40 host venues, showcasing creative work to a diverse audience, and visibility through your listing in our printed Festival Guide, website, and mobile apps.

2. Submit Your Work for Our Prototype Exhibition: ‘Work/Life’

Deadline: Friday, September 20, 2019

This is for you if:
You are a Canadian designer or artist (based in Canada or abroad) who wants to create an original houseware and/or working product for contemporary life.

Benefits include:
Having your work featured alongside a group of Canadian artists and designers at the Umbra Store, artist fee, and visibility through the exhibition listing in our printed Festival Guide, website, and mobile apps. All selected prototypes will also be considered for addition to Umbra’s growing roster of quality products, to be manufactured, distributed, and sold through the Umbra brand, with royalty.

3. Submit Your Work for Our Thematic Exhibition: ‘Future Retrospectives’

Deadline: Friday, September 20, 2019

This is for you if:
You are a designer or artist who wants to exhibit your work in a thematic group exhibition curated by the Festival.

Benefits include:
Having your work featured alongside artists and designers in Harbourfront Centre’s Artport Gallery, artist fee, and visibility through the exhibition listing in our printed Festival Guide, website, and mobile apps.

4. Submit a Talk for the DesignTO Symposium: A Future without Work

Deadline: Friday, September 20, 2019

This is for you if:
You are a designer, educator, or thinker exploring new forms of work. Talks may be about current research or case studies, new products or technologies, spaces or experiences, speculative design or strategies, or new processes or policies.

Benefits include:
Sharing your work with 250 captive attendees at George Brown College, speaker fee, meeting other leaders in the field, and visibility through the Symposium listing in our printed Festival Guide, website, and mobile apps.

5. Produce Your Own Independent Project

Deadline: Friday, October 4, 2019

This is for you if:
You are an artist, designer, design firm, local business, academic/cultural institution, or a student that has an event, exhibition, or window installation you want to self-produce and register with the Festival.

Benefits include:
Showcasing creative work to a diverse and captive audience, meeting artists and designers, and visibility through your listing in our printed Festival Guide, website, and mobile apps.

You should know:
You are entirely responsible for the content of and venue for your event or exhibition.
