Part of this exhibition’s aim is to challenge current visual arts expectations and boundaries while at the same time encouraging connection and engagement. The work prioritizes the personal and emotional, over strictly aesthetic or conceptual considerations. In so doing, these artists hope to connect on a visceral level with the viewer, using the power of narrative and biography. In these times, making those deeper connections has taken on an urgency that grows with each passing day.

The show consists of the work of three Toronto based artists who have found commonality in their approach to self-expression. From their individual perspectives and backgrounds, they seek to illuminate inner emotional landscapes, legacies of family history, childhood mythologies and the myriad way in which the past inserts itself into the present. The show consists of two-dimensional works by all three artists. Each piece stands on its own and in dialogue with the other pieces in the show, and speaks to the universally shared impact of family on personal histories and stories. Each of the artists; Teri Donovan, Arnie Lipsey, and Par Nair, display both a high degree of technical accomplishment and a diverse exploration of visual styles.

These three artists recognize it is the personal aspects of their work that unites them in commonality. It is their hope that the impact of their work will similarly resonate with the memories and experiences of the viewer.
