PROFESSIONAL ARTISTIC SERVICES REQUIRED FOR THE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION AT BINBROOK COMMUNITY PARKETTE
Closing Monday, October 2, 2012
3:00:59 pm, Hamilton time

Sealed Proposals for the above noted Request for Proposals, addressed to the Procurement Manager, City of Hamilton, Procurement Section, Standard Life Building, 120 King Street West, 9th Floor, Suite 900, Hamilton, ON, L8P 4V2 will be received at only the Procurement Section on or before the date and time stated above.

SCOPE OF WORK: INVITATION TO ARTISTS

The City of Hamilton is requesting artists or artists' teams make a submission for the Public Art commission at Binbrook Community Parkette, located at the corner of Highway 56 and Binbrook Road. The purpose of the project is for a permanent public art commission that will be reflective of historical narratives, have significance to the community and public space, and which will encourage and support the creative input of artists.

Priorities will focus on artistic innovation and creativity, as well as work that can be successfully and skillfully implemented in responding to the community feedback, which emphasized modesty of scale and size, integration and community reflection. Artists are encouraged to think about installations that could encompass a broad range of forms/media, from a singular work to a series; integrated into the site and landscape, or multiple incarnations across the site.

This is a 2 stage competition with an honorarium of $1000 for short listed artists and an award of $150,000 for the fabrication of the successful proposal.
Proposals will be evaluated by a set of criteria, outlined in the RFP, by a volunteer jury. The Jury is comprised of members of the local community, artists, arts professionals, and other external advisors where required. City staff is involved as non voting members.

NOTE: The Successful Artist will be required to show proof of Commercial General Liability Insurance coverage in the amount of $2,000,000 and furnish a WSIB Clearance Certificate or letter of exemption from the WSIB prior to commencing work.

OPTIONAL INFORMATION SESSION

Two Optional Information Sessions are scheduled to ensure an understanding of all requirements and to view the location. The City encourages all Artists to attend these information sessions; however, failure of an Artist to attend these meetings will not result in the rejection of any Proposal submission by that Artist.
