Call For Submissions: Plate Glass Gallery

The Niagara Artists Centre is a not-for-profit, charitably registered collective formed by and dedicated to serving the working artists and community of Niagara. More info: www.nac.org.

The Plate Glass Gallery is a storefront exhibition space, suitable for installations or sculptural works, at the front of the Niagara Artists Centre with a high public profile on St. Catharines’ main street.

Submissions must take into account the physical characteristics of the window space. It is lit at all times, and consists of a raised platform visible through our front window. See the architectural rendering for more details.

Proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis. Selected proposals will be exhibited for a minimum of three months. Artists are paid above CARFAC recommended rates, as well as being compensated for any art transportation costs.

Please attach to your submission: your CV, a description of the proposed exhibition (one page or less), including a short artist’s statement specific to the work, and digital documentation (up to ten images) of either the proposed work if it is complete, or similar previous works/in-process documentation, as appropriate.

Submissions can be made by email to artists@nac.org, or by mail to 354 St. Paul street, St. Catharines, ON L2R 3N2. If you require the return of your support materials, please include a self-addressed envelope with postage attached.

Selection Criteria

Proposals should be original and innovative, provoking passerby to engage. Work must be compelling enough to attract the viewer, who cannot approach closely, but must experience the work from the outside.

Our programming committee consisting of established artists, curators, and board members familiar with national standards will weigh the merit of the proposals as well as their relevance, and the ability of the work to resonate within this particular community. Projects should serve to stimulate the future artistic production of our members. The programming committee is committed to equitable representation.
