1) Winter Exhibitions
     Pay By Donation

The Empty Room by Christine Webster
Continues to January 14, 2019, Thursday to Monday, 8 am to 4 pm

The Empty Room explores new musical composition and spatialization methods in virtual 3D spaces. The user moves freely through a virtual plateau in the middle of a giant hypercube orbiting over the earth. All around and inside the plateau a genuine 64-channel audio spatializer is combined to create an abstract and ever changing organic visual environment. The Empty Room is a real VR experience – not a 360° film.

Recollect / Retold: Your Stories of New and Old
Continues to April 1, 2019, Thursday to Monday, 8 am to 4 pm

NAISA wants to hear your voice – the voice of your children and the voice of your parents and grandparents - to add into the mix of this ongoing exhibition which will be matched with historic photos of South River to tell the story of our community and our place in the Near North.

2) Deep Wireless Festival of Radio & Transmission Art
     January 17 - April 1, 2019
     www.deepwireless.ca

New Adventures in Sound Art is pleased to launch the 18th edition of its Deep Wireless Festival that opens with Art’s Birthday events on January 17 - 20 and continues until April 1, 2019. Deep Wireless is a celebration of Radio and Transmission Art presented by New Adventures in Sound Art that includes performances, special radio broadcasts, artist residencies, and workshops.

3) Deep Wireless Exhibitions

anyWare by Jane Tingley, Cindy Poremba and Marius Kintel
January 17 to April 1, 2019, Thursday to Monday, 8 am to 4 pm
NAISA North Media Arts Centre, 106 Ottawa Avenue, South River
Pay By Donation

anyWare is an Internet of Things distributed sculpture comprised of two identical objects and a third virtual online portal that are individually connected to the Internet and mirror each other. The objects simultaneously respond to people who interact directly with them, as well as allow them to interact with each other through the sculptures. Structuring these interactions are a number of games and puzzles for people to play/solve, either individually or collaboratively. The objects transform in the experience of exploration (either with one person or potentially with many people) and in so doing reveal different levels of interactivity and aesthetic experience.

NAISARadio Café
January 17 to April 1, 2019, Thursday to Monday, 8 am to 4 pm
NAISA North Media Arts Centre, 106 Ottawa Avenue, South River
Pay By Donation

Journey in your mind to a place ‘off the beaten track’ and explore an eclectic range of radio and sound art from around the world while sitting at one of NAISA’s Café tables. NAISARadio Café is a curated listening experience delivered through radio receivers on café tables. The broadcast will consist of works made by artists from Asia, Europe, the middle East, and across Canada who have responded to NAISA's 2019 programming theme of Off the Beat(en) Track. The collection will also be available online on NAISA’s 24/7 radio art stream NAISA Radio (https://naisa.ca/naisa-radio/) and on NAISA’s Soundcloud album collection called Deep Wireless 14.

Immobile Device by Josh Gumiela
February 16 - 18, 2019, Thursday to Monday, 10 am to 4 pm
NAISA North Media Arts Centre, 106 Ottawa Avenue, South River
Pay By Donation

Our mobile devices track our movements, allowing corporations to predict our behavior. The work Immobile Device provides reason to put our phones down and allow our senses to meander down a different path, leading us away from the conventions of high technology and towards new conceptions of connectedness. After exploring Immobile Device during Family Day weekend, Josh Gumiela will lead you on an electromagnetic sound hunt to uncover electromagnetic sounds that exist in many other common electronic devices.

4) Art’s Birthday celebrations open Deep Wireless Festival
     January 17 - 20, 2019
     http://naisa.ca/naisa-events/arts-birthday/

Art’s Birthday is an international exchange-art event on or around January 17th to celebrate the birth of Art. The idea was proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou to celebrate the presence of art in our lives. It has since been celebrated on January 17 by artists and arts organizations around the world. Visit http://www.artsbirthday.net/ to read about past editions.

January 17, 2:30 - 3:30pm
On January 17th, special guest artist Jane Tingley will launch her exhibition of anyWare, a networked media sculpture with a special performance version for Euroradio Satellite network that includes audience participation at NAISA and a remote performer at an Art’s Birthday party somewhere else in the world.

January 18, 7 pm
Join Jane Tingley Friday night for an artist talk during which she will contextualize the anyWare sculpture in relation to her previous interactive artworks and provide an “under the hood” overview of how it works.

January 19
Join us on Saturday January 19th from 10am - 4pm, for a chance for the entire family to experience and create Art. Kids of all ages can try out many fun and exciting art-making activities, including interacting with the anyWare sculpture, and yes, there will be cake to celebrate Art’s 1,000,056th birthday.

Jan 19 - 20
Learn how to design and create a unique interactive electronic sound device using The Touch Board and conductive Electric Paint on Saturday and then on Sunday learn how to record, edit and transform sounds and play them on The Touch Board instrument that you’ve created - One or Two day registrations available.

5) Deep Wireless March Break Fun Fair events
     March 11 - 17, 2019
     https://naisa.ca/education/workshops/

NAISA will be open everyday during March Break with family friendly activities and performances that highlight radio and transmission art: be your own radio announcer; tell a story; play a touch board instrument that you create; and listen to artist performances at various times during the afternoon.
