Copyright, Rights & Reproductions Assistant
Regular full-time (25-35 hours per week)

Under the direction of the Registrar, Collection Information & Image Resources, the Copyright, Rights and Reproductions Assistant will provide copyright and licensing support for AGO projects including obtaining clearances, researching copyright and licensing particulars. They will assist with the administration and negotiation of licensing agreements, provide project and department support for R&R research, assist with monitoring copyright for artist’s estates and assist with external client requests for licensing agreements and copyright clearances.

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Copyright Act and ability to interpret same
  • Working knowledge of International Copyright legislation and jurisprudence
  • Knowledge of different formats of digital images and photographic materials
  • Experience administering rights and reproduction requests
  • Working knowledge and skill in use of computer software applications and databases, including Collection Management Software such as TMS (The Museum System) and Digital Asset Management Systems, MS Word, Excel
  • Ability to perform independent research, using a variety of sources in an effort to locate artists and rights holders
  • Ability to manage projects, judge operational requirements and to propose creative solutions
  • Skill to negotiate reproduction fees and conditions with copyright holders to use material in AGO projects
  • Ability to provide excellent client service
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and administrative skills
  • Working knowledge of art
  • Reading and speaking French is an asset
