Fundraising and Marketing Specialist

The Dundas Art and Craft Association which operates as the CARNEGIE GALLERY wants to hire a Fundraising and Marketing Specialist immediately. The Gallery is a not-for-profit corporation and is a registered charity located in Dundas. The Gallery promotes and exhibits Canadian visual arts and crafts, particularly from the Greater Hamilton Area.

As Fundraising and Marketing Specialist you will report to the Chair of the Board of Directors, work with the Curator, the board members, volunteers and artist members. The job involves grant writing, developing sponsorships, print and digital marketing communications, and some banking responsibilities.

The work week is 24 hours and involves daytime, some evening and weekend work.

The duties of the Fundraising and Marketing Specialist include:

Fundraising:

  • Grant writing
  • Sponsorship development
  • Supporting Membership campaign
  • Assisting with fundraising activities
  • Public relations

Marketing:

  • All marketing communication, including but not limited to:
  • Quarterly newsletter compilation, printing and distribution.
  • Development and implementation of social media strategies.
  • Promotion of monthly exhibitions and other events.

Reporting:

  • Monthly report to the Board
  • Ongoing liaison with Board and Committees

Financial:

  • Gallery expense management
  • Some banking responsibilities under supervision of the Treasurer.

Customer service:

  • Occasionally serve customers in the Gallery’s retail shop (to cover lunch breaks, or when there is a high volume of customers).


The successful applicant should be a self-starter and also have the following skills and interests:

  • excellent communication skills
  • excellent administrative, and computer skills
  • grant writing and/or fundraising experience
  • post-secondary education and a background in the arts
  • experience in print and digital marketing, including social media
  • graphic design experience would be an asset
  • public relations and customer/audience development experience
  • a willingness to work flexible hours
  • ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
