You're invited! Thursday, October 25th, 4 — 9 PM — join us at Dynasty Studio for an open house event celebrating Turnip Republic, a new suite of drawings, banners and ceramics by Jerry Ropson. Over the course of the afternoon, Ropson will add an ephemeral wall drawing to the exhibit. There will be refreshments and impromptu turnip readings by the artist.

Turnip Republic
Jerry Ropson

October 9 — November 4 2018
Dynasty Studio, 136 Avenue Road

Open house event
Thursday, October 25th
4 — 9 PM
free, drop in, all welcome

About the show
Ubiquitous and hearty, the turnip is lowly a vegetable widely grown in Newfoundland, a rocky place, with little soil and harsh winters. Endlessly turning over memories and myths of his childhood home in an outport village on the island, Ropson calls upon the turnip as a new motif in his stark black and white imagery. Dark and playful, Ropson's latest drawings, banners and objects hold stirrings of Science fiction and feudal legend.

About the artist
Starting out in Pollard's Point, a tiny outport village in rural Newfoundland, Jerry Ropson is an artist and educator. Using elements of drawing and storytelling, he has focused his practice on ways of making and doing that include drawing, sculpture, performance and video to hide and uncover the myths of home. Having exhibited throughout Canada and abroad, he often seeks out public and non-traditional sites.
