Middle Ground – A Liminal Art Exhibition
Artists exploring the state of “in-between"

A group show featuring the CERA Collective:
Dania Al-Obaidi, Anastessia Bettas, Maggie Doswell, Susan Fisher, Claudia Mandler McKnight

October 3- October 26, 2018
Opening reception: October 4; 6 – 9p.m.
Twist Gallery
1100 Queen St. West, Toronto, ON

Liminality describes the characteristics of any in-between state, regardless of the context. A place, a time, a situation, a being, all can be liminal in themselves or be a part of, or initiate a liminal event. To stay close to the origins of liminality, a threshold is a liminal space in itself, but the crossing of this threshold is also a liminal act. Therefore, liminality is defined as a middle ground, a space and time where transformations take place, a transitional state filled with ambiguities.

In this group show artists seek to create a visual form that clarifies the transition from reality to the liminal state. By producing “dreamlike” “transitional” images the artists hope to elicit an emotional transition for the viewer.
