Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is seeking a Program Manager - Visual Arts

The Opportunity
The Program Planning team within the Arts division of Banff Centre is looking for an administrative leader with exceptional project management skills to implement and execute visual arts programs in our artistic environment.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Artistic Program Planning, this position is accountable for the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of visual arts programming.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Works with Arts Directors as a member of the design team on the planning and design of arts programming; helping translate the artistic vision and strategic plan into viable and sustainable programming model;
  • Manages all relevant and necessary stakeholders to advance the co-creation and/or design and implementation of programs;
  • Communicates and manages overall goals and objectives, key milestones and outcomes, and evaluation with both internal and external stakeholders over the lifetime of programs within the coordinated program plan;
  • Works closely with subject matter and process experts/designers to ensure that the overall design of, approach to, and outcomes of a programs are reflective of our brand and mission;
  • Manages assigned program budgets, resource allocation (people, materials, agendas, places, partners, technology) and deliverables;
  • Works closely with Program Operations to ensure the successful delivery of programs and successful performance management and mentorship of program team members, in partnership with managers across the Program Operations group and in accordance with the collective agreement;
  • Develops and maintains professional, informed working relationships with key clients and funders to ensure long-term loyalty, opportunity and sustainability and act as host and/or facilitator for programs and ensure a significant arts presence throughout the program lifecycle;
  • Ensures measurement and tracking of project impact and the careful analysis of this information in a timely manner, for both on-going improvement, and for funder/client related reporting;
  • Oversight of application, adjudication and notification process;
  • Project management including recruitment strategies;
  • Contributes to the preparation of the 3-year program plan;
  • Stays current of industry trends and takes initiative in proposing and/or implementing changes;
  • Maintains and develops contacts within the arts, cultural, government and business communities.

Qualification and Educational Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven program/project management experience, preferably within a creative environment;
  • University degree in an arts discipline, or related area of study;
  • Strong multidisciplinary visual arts background;
  • Solid understanding of program and event marketing, promotion and production;
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence etc.) skills are essential;
  • Has an ability to formulate long and short range goals, while anticipating and responding to flexible program needs;
  • Applies good management principles in an artistic environment;
  • Visual Arts production experience is an asset.

Special Requirements

  • Due to the nature of the job, this position may require the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.

Employment Terms & Benefits

  • In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a permanent, full time position, subject to a 12 month probationary period, working 37.5 hours/week.
  • Annual salary will be between $68,000 - $72,000 CAD commensurate with experience.
