Ryerson Image Centre

The Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) exists for the research, teaching and exhibition of photography and related media. We are an active partner within the academic fabric of Ryerson University, the cultural network of greater Toronto, and the national and international artistic community.

The RIC boasts three interrelated areas of activity: an exhibition program, which addresses topics of social, cultural, aesthetic, and historical concern from a variety of contemporary perspectives; its research program, which conducts and facilitates inquiry into primary resource materials and offers lectures, symposia, and publications devoted to the history of photography; and, accessible in its Peter Higdon Research Centre, a collection of photography spanning the medium's history—including the renowned Black Star Collection of twentieth-century photo-reportage. The RIC is also home to several artists' archives, including those of Berenice Abbott, Wendy Snyder MacNeil, Jo Spence, and Werner Wolff.

The Opportunity

As a member of the Ryerson Image Centre, you will coordinate and execute the day-to-day marketing and public relations initiatives for the Ryerson Image Centre (RIC) in support of the Centre’s marketing and communications plan, through various media outlets. You will assist in the development and implementation of marketing and publicity campaigns and materials to grow the RIC’s audience base, build the RIC’s profile and reputation, and generate media coverage and publicity. Working with the Director and an external consultant, you will contribute in the research, writing, editing and distribution of press and advertising materials, the RIC website, social media, programming brochures, and other forms of written communication.


To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma or at least 3 years of specialized training in the Arts, Communications, Marketing, Cultural Management/Administration or in a relevant field is required, along with at least three (3) years of relevant work experience in the cultural/media/arts sector, to include at least one year of relevant experience in a marketing and communications
  • Knowledge of digital and print marketing, along with demonstrated knowledge of digital marketing applications and software is required.
  • Writing and editorial skills
  • Strong communication and research skills
  • Knowledge of Art History/Contemporary Art/Current events/Contemporary culture is an advantage
