Cultural Services Assistant

12 month contract
Part Time – Up to 25 hours per week

Under the supervision of the Manager of Economic Development, Innovation and Culture, this position will assist with the delivery of the Cultural Services workplan. The focus of this position is on supporting and growing a vibrant arts and culture sector that contributes to making Halton Hills one of the best places to live, work, play and invest.

Accountabilities:

  • Supports the Cultural Development Coordinator in the delivery of the Cultural Services workplan, including the Cultural Master Plan, Public Art Policy and Public Art Master Plan
  • Gathers, prepares and maintains up-to-date content for cultural communications on a range of platforms, including social media, website, intranet, e-newsletters and online calendars
  • Assists with the development of new tourism offerings, including the Cultural Assets Tours
  • Inputs and updates data into geomatic software and maps proposed tours
  • Supports the delivery of the Halton Hills Culture Days celebration, through outreach to the cultural sector to encourage participation in Culture Days, providing support to activity organizers, assisting with activity registration, scheduling the Library and Cultural Centre Hub, distributing marketing materials to activity organizers; and recruiting volunteers to support activities
  • Provides logistical support related to the Town’s sister-city partnership with Wenjiang (China)
  • Researches and prepares a database of granting programs, including eligibility criteria and deadlines that can be accessed by both the municipality, community arts and cultural organizations, and individual artists
  • Assists with the completion and submission of funding applications, as required
  • Assists with the development of marketing/promotional plans, and the planning and implementation of community events
  • Provides administrative support, including scheduling meetings and taking minutes for cultural committees
  • Responds to public inquiries into local cultural offerings and ensures the highest standard of customer service for internal and external customers
  • Other duties as required

You possess:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in Arts Administration, Cultural Management, Cultural Studies, Museum Studies, Event Management, Community Art, Communications and Marketing or a related field
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the arts and culture sector
  • Understanding of the cultural sector, including best practices, trends and current research
  • Successful track record in identifying, applying for and securing external funding opportunities related to the cultural sector
  • Experience working effectively with community agencies, municipal government, the arts and culture sector, and the general public
  • Proven experience in event planning and implementation
  • Experience in digital and traditional marketing and communications
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and independently
  • Positive, solution-oriented and customer service-focused attitude
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Strong logistical and scheduling skills
  • Knowledge of geographic information systems and graphic design tools is considered an asset
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task under time constraints and to be flexible in response to changing workload demands
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business purposes

Compensation:
The rate for this part time 12-month contract position (up to 25 hours per week) is $26.99 per hour. The successful candidate will be required to attend, deliver and participate in evening and weekend meetings and events. There may be an opportunity for this position to be extended and/or assist with special projects in addition to the 25 hours per week, paid at the same rate.
