Create with Us: Spring Art Courses for the Public
(LAST DAY FOR EARLY BIRD SPECIAL)

Hosted by SKETCH, Lower Level Studios, Artscape Youngplace, 180 Shaw Street

SKETCH is a twenty-one-year-old community-engaged arts non-profit initiative for diverse young people, ages 16-29, coming from across Canada, who are living homeless and on the margins, navigating poverty.

For the first time ever, SKETCH will be holding art courses open to the public!

Create for 6 weeks at SKETCH in exciting courses led by SKETCH’s creative young artist leaders. Engaging art skill development –in small group classes–where you can create your own art pieces to take home. All in our vibrant creative hub at Artscape Youngplace.

Art Courses

Movement Exploration with Nigel Edwards (8 to 10 spots available)
Sundays 6-8:30PM
Explore various techniques to help develop your own movement. Discover new ways of moving and create accessible movement practices you can do at home. No experience necessary.

Cooking with Krystal White (8 spots available)
Sundays 2-5PM
Learn to cook a few simple recipes on your own in community. From Pizza to Wontons, this workshop is for people of all levels who love to cook for themselves and with others.

Ceramics Drop-in with Parker Dirks (4 spots available)
Sundays 2-5PM
Create handbuilt ceramic works in a supportive environment. Participants will have the opportunity to learn basic handbuilding techniques such pinch pots, slab construction and coil building. For ceramics lovers of all levels.

Ceramics: Handbuilding with Parker Dirks (8 to 10 spots available)
Thursdays 6-9PM
Learn basic handbuilding techniques, beginner-style! Participants will learn the three fundamental techniques - hand modeling (pinching), coil and slab construction.

Ceramics: Wheel Throwing with Parker Dirks (registration is now FULL)
Sundays 6-9PM
Learn how to throw pottery! Participants will leave the course with basic throwing skills such as clay preparation, centering, opening, creating cylinders, bowls and mugs.

BookBinding with Huda Eldardiry (8 to 10 spots available)
Sundays 2-5PM & 6-9PM
Learn the art of bookbinding! Participants will learn how to design and create a book that will be custom to their needs and wants such as sketchbook or calendar planner.

Life Drawing with Jess De Vittoris (8 to 10 spots available)
Mondays 6-9PM & Thursdays 6-9PM
Expand your visual arts technique in Life Drawing! Participants are introduced to a variety of art techniques and media in both drawing and painting. With a different array of materials and the help of visual sources–such as still-life and live model drawing. Participants will learn about line, shape, form, volume and anatomy, starting with gesture and simple forms to a higher detail focus using charcoal, pencils, soft and oil pastels, watercolor and acrylics.

Screen Printing with Rosa Mindreau (8 to 10 spots available)
Sundays 6-9PM
Learn how to screen print with Rosa Mindreau! With more than 8 years in the screen printing business, she’ll share everything she knows, classes are fun for everyone involved! Each class includes screen printing educational handouts, resources, materials, food–and you will get to keep all the shirts/posters/patches you print. These exciting classes are completely hands on and interactive–the best way to learn the screen printing process.
