The first 50 ticket purchasers receive the C Auction Edition, Dreams Caught by Ursula Johnson, a commercially produced dreamcatcher kit assembled according to manufacturer instructions and accompanied by a printed tag and naturally dyed yarn from The Indian Truckhouse of High Art. The C Auction Edition is generously supported by La Fondation Emmanuelle Gattuso.

The 14th Annual C Magazine Contemporary Art Auction includes more than 50 artworks generously donated by artists whose work reflects C Magazine’s mandate to advance critical discourse and education concerning contemporary art. Join us on Wednesday April 4th at Scrap Metal Gallery for the live auction with auctioneer Perry Tung, courtesy of Bonhams Canada and art framing by Superframe. The gala reception features catering by Les Louises, open bar with Grolsch beer and wines selected by Midfield Winebar. The 2018 C Magazine Auction is presented by our Lead Sponsors BMO Financial Group and Julia + Gilles Ouellette, Artists’ Sponsor The Kavelman-Fonn Foundation and our event sponsors and donors.

Ursula Johnson is a performance and installation artist, of Mi’kmaw First Nation Ancestry. Her work is often place-based and frequently employs cooperative didactic intervention. Johnson combines traditional Indigenous practices with contemporary art influences to transform and reveal new ways of working through narratives of colonization, commodification, language, memory and ancestry. She has presented publicly on such topics as Indigenous self-determination, Environmental responsibility and sustainability, and the impacts of economics on the Indigenous object. Johnson has exhibited nationally and internationally and is the winner of the 2017 Sobey Art Award.

Funds raised by the annual C Magazine Contemporary Art Auction directly support the work of Canadian artists and writers through the publication of their work in C Magazine and the presentation of related educational programming. Participating artists receive a portion of the sales. Charitable donation receipts will be issued by C The Visual Arts Foundation for ticket and art purchases in excess of the market value.
