Opening Reception for Art Gallery of Guelph’s Winter Exhibitions | Wednesday, January 17 at 7 pm

This winter, the Art Gallery of Guelph presents a series of thought-provoking exhibitions that take as their starting point the contested relationship of identity, landscape, and place. Join us on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 pm for a public reception to celebrate the opening of 150 Acts: Art, Activism, Impact II, Common Collective: Land/Line, and Shelley Niro: ONGNIAAHRA/Niagara.

150 Acts: Art, Activism, Impact II (January 2 – February 18, 2018)
The AGG introduces part two of 150 Acts: Art, Activism, Impact with the addition of works by Indigenous artists Shuvinai Ashoona, Meryl McMaster, Shelley Niro, Jessie Oonark, Pudlo Pudlat, Tekaronhiáhkhwa Santee Smith and Jeff Thomas. Further works by Anique Jordan and Abedar Kamgari bring into the dialogue the experiences and histories of artists and communities forced into migration through legacies of conflict and colonialism in the Caribbean and Middle East. read more >

Common Collective: Land/Line (January 17 – April 29, 2018)
With urban encroachment, farmland in Ontario has dropped by 1.6 million acres since 1991, while the population has grown by 3.5 million. With Land/Line, Common Collective presents an interactive installation that combines new media and analog technologies to explore social and environmental changes witnessed in rural environments in Ontario over the past half-century. read more >

Shelley Niro: ONGNIAAHRA/Niagara (January 13 – February 25, 2018, Boarding House Gallery)
Shelley Niro’s exhibition marks the beginning of her 2018 creative residency with the Art Gallery of Guelph and Musagetes Foundation, emerging from Niro’s engagement with the AGG’s extensive collection of historic Haudenosaunee beadwork. read more >
