RESIDENCIES

BAiR Emerging 2018
April 23 – May 18
Application deadline: January 10

This is an immersive program of studio practice, creative exploration, and critical feedback and mentorship for artists in the early stages of their careers. BAiR Emerging combines the artistic freedom of a self-directed residency with the supportive benefits of an organized program. As well as having the space to create, research, and experiment, participants are part of a community of emerging artists committed to developing and expanding their practice.

Emerging Atlantic Artist Residency
June 4 – August 31
Application deadline: January 31

This residency provides one emerging visual artist from Atlantic Canada the opportunity to create new work within the inspiring surrounds of Banff Centre over a period of eight weeks. Exact dates to be negotiated between the artist and Banff Centre during the months of June to August 2018. The vision of this program is to strengthen cultural connections between eastern and western Canada, and to assist in building the skills necessary for emerging Atlantic artists to be successful in their careers.

Banff Artist in Residence 2D
June 4 – July 6
Application deadline: February 14

This program is a self-directed opportunity for artists to delve into the richness and diversity of studio-based practices in the mediums of photography, video, drawing, printmaking, painting, paper making, and textiles. Artists are encouraged to explore the function of these mediums in contemporary art practice, and pursue unconventional approaches to ideas, materials, and processes.

Banff Clay Revival
June 4 – July 6
Application deadline: February 14

This residency acknowledges the resurgence of clay in contemporary art as a material of sculptural practice. In an age of digital technology where we are often detached from materiality and process, artists are returning to the tactile and elemental nature of ceramics.

Indigenous Preparatorial Practicum
April 2, 2018 – March 29, 2019
Application deadline: February 21

The Walter Phillips Gallery Indigenous Preparatorial Practicum program enables the participant to engage in hands-on opportunities working alongside the gallery’s preparator and curator. Direct mentorship and support is provided throughout the program to develop the participant’s skills in preventative conservation, art handling, installation techniques, and museum standards in environmental conditions.
