Building Patron: Garage Door
Create a more visible, welcoming space for the communities! We're raising money to install a garage door in the front of our building. Estimated at $20,000, the door will address the barrier of our imposing facade, making our activities more visible and accessible.

Program Patron
Directly contribute to an increase in public programs and engagement opportunities. Informed by consultation and research, AKA’s vision identifies an increased need in supporting participatory and artistic work that steps outside of the traditional exhibition boundary, such as relationship building through events, forums and residencies.

2017 is AKA's 35th year since incorporation, but we've been on Treaty 6 Land and the Homeland of the Métis since 1971, when the Shoestring Gallery began as one of the first artist-run centres in Canada. For 46 years, AKA has supported artists by providing research/creation/exhibition space, enabling artistic self-determination, and compensating and recognizing artists as professionals. AKA has been a vital force in a number of visual arts partnerships and events in Saskatchewan, and a critical participant in the national artist-run ecology.

Over the next three years, AKA's curatorial framework is inspired by the metaphor of a gateway, positioning the centre as place-based and engaging with diverse and varied publics, while taking a self-reflexive look at our role within the local, provincial, and national arts ecology.

AKA's renewed vision is firmly rooted in neighbourliness, influenced by our 10 years in the Saskatoon core neighbourhood of Riversdale. We're responding to barriers to our programming and our building. We're challenging our organizational agility and responsiveness, enabling artists to approach projects in new formats. We're engaging the people of Saskatoon in ways that attempt to disrupt inherent institutional authority, fostering an open and welcoming space. A few recent projects include Locals Only, Horse Camp, and Samqwan/Nipiy.

Today and throughout AKA's history, we have depended on the financial support of members, volunteers and dedicated individuals. As we celebrate 35 years, your support will contribute to AKA's growth and evolution.
