Tangled Art + Disability
Call for Board of Directors Members

Tangled Art + Disability is a registered charitable organization with a mandate to support Deaf, Mad and disability-identified artists, to cultivate Deaf, Mad and disability arts in Canada, and to enhance access to the arts for artists and audiences of all abilities. Located in a dynamic arts complex of galleries, studios, festival offices and like-minded arts and community groups in Toronto, Tangled is a rapidly growing cultural leader in the area of disability and arts.

Tangled Art + Disability is seeking Board of Directors members who will bring dedication and vision into our organization. We require persons with a variety of qualifications such as financial expertise, fundraising, donor relations, legal, policy development and human resources knowledge as well as familiarity with contemporary disability arts.

The Tangled Board of Directors is a working/policy Board and each member is expected to attend monthly meetings, sit on one committee and commit to serving a three-year term. Ideal candidates will help develop and implement strategies that will generate revenue, attract new supporters and build the gallery’s profile. Commitments of each Board member include:

  1. Regular attendance at Board meetings and important related meetings.
  2. Active participation in the Board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
  3. A serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.
  4. Staying informed about committee matters, preparing themselves well for meetings, and reviewing and commenting on minutes and reports.
  5. Getting to know other committee members and building a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
  6. Getting to know and staying informed about the programming activities of the organization and of the arts community in Toronto generally.
  7. Participation in fundraising for the organization.

Board members are volunteers and therefore cannot be financially compensated for their work, or exhibit at Tangled while being on the Board.
