Express Yourself in Fibre This Summer!
Textile Workshops in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

Join us for 4 and 5-day textile workshops at the LaHave Weaving Studio in the beautiful town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Immerse yourself in colour and texture in a variety of classes from mid-June to mid-September 2017.

Our professionally-run and well-equipped rustic studio overlooks Lunenburg Harbour. The studio is a 10-minute walk along the boardwalk to the public wharf area and a variety of cafes and restaurants. Lunenburg and area also offers a wide range of accommodations.

The workshop topics include Introduction to Weaving/Refresh Your Weaving Skills, Intermediate Weaving/Weave Your Own Project, Woven Design Skills, Introduction to Tapestry (and bring home your tapestry loom!), Textile Study Tour of the South Shore, and specific projects such as Weave a Woollen Throw and Weave A Rag Rug/Rag Hanging.

Weaver and owner Lesley Armstrong studied weaving at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS (B.F.A.), went on to further studies at the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science (now Philadelphia University), and then completed her M.A. in Art Education, studying in the Fiber Dept. at The Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts).

Lesley returned to her native Nova Scotia where she has operated a weaving business for some years, Armstrong Textiles, focusing on fashions and interior furnishings. Lesley has taught as Regular Part-time faculty in the Textiles Department at NSCAD U (1983-2016). With great excitement Lesley is re-commencing the weaving and textiles workshops that used to be held at LaHave Bakery (well worth a visit). The LaHave Weaving Studio is now situated in a building owned by the historic Lunenburg Foundry. The second floor of the old Foundry garage is undergoing a transformation over the winter and spring months of 2017 to be ready for the workshops. See you this summer!
