The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery (TPP) at Harbourfront Centre is Canada’s leading non-collecting, public art gallery dedicated exclusively to contemporary visual art from Canada and the world. It is a vital forum for the advanced artistic culture of our time that offers an exceptional facility and professional support to a diverse group of living artists while engaging equally diverse audiences in their work. The gallery fulfills its mandate by generating: exhibitions that represent the range of advanced practice in visual arts; publications that provide in-depth explorations of contemporary art; lectures and symposia that encourage debate and further understanding; interpretative tools that invite visitors to question, explore and reflect upon their experiences; programming that incorporates other areas of culture at their intersection with visual art


Position Title: Individual Giving & Membership Officer
Department: The Power Plant (TPP)
Reporting to: Director, The Power Plant
Direct reports: n/a
Salary: To be discussed with potential candidates
Contract term: This is a full-time position with an immediate start

Purpose of the Position:

The Individual Giving and Membership Officer at The Power Plant will oversee all aspects of the Membership and Donor programs including managing and maintaining members in Tessitura, coordinating membership related activities and supporting TPP Development department with special events, membership benefit fulfilment and individual donor stewardship



  • Manage effective communications with TPP Members including renewal solicitations, acknowledgements, invitations and benefit fulfillment.
  • Develop and plan TPP Membership events, working in conjunction with TPP Major Events & Business Development Officer and curatorial department for in-gallery logistics.
  • Develop and plan trips and international events as part of the Art Travel Program.


  • Manage and report to TPP Board Membership Committee with support from the Director and direction from the Membership Committee Chair; schedule meetings, foster and execute new initiatives, events and benefits.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets for all Membership related activities with Finance and Administration Coordinator.
  • Working with TPP Marketing and Communications Officer, update in-gallery signage and website with accurate donor listings for Membership and Exhibition Individual Giving; and provide content for Member e-newsletters and Annual Report.

Revenue Generation

  • Identify prospects for TPP Membership, Exhibitions and Programs support; and coordinate cultivation, solicitation and growth strategies.
  • Coordinate solicitations and acknowledgements for TPP Individual Giving; prepare prospect lists, funding requests and ensure excellent benefit fulfillment.
  • Support the TPP Development team in cultivation, stewardship and solicitation activities including identifying prospects from current Members and Donors.
  • Manage all Sponsored Membership Programs.
  • Database files on all Members and individual donors and prepare timely updates for management.
  • Work with Harbourfront Centre staff to maintain data standards and improve database functions.
  • Liaise with Harbourfront Centre through the Tessitura power user group and with development staff regarding current legislation and procedures.

Work, Health and Safety (WH&S)

  • All staff are required to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other personnel (including volunteers and interns) who may be affected by their conduct.


  • 2 to 4 years’ experience with visual arts related membership/ individual giving programs and a post-secondary education in arts or not-for-profit administration is preferred.
  • Strong solicitation and fulfillment letter writing skills and working knowledge of membership marketing strategies
  • Proven experience coordinating volunteer committees and experience working with various levels of volunteers.
  • Understanding of individual giving as a means to cultivate support for the gallery.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills are required to deal tactfully with a variety of people, including staff, event volunteers, artists and other external groups.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and databases to manage fundraising and donor stewardship
  • Extraordinary organization skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of public funding agencies and grant procedures is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours during events
