Bonavista Biennale announces 2017 artist line-up
August 17 – September 17
We’re excited to announce the artists participating in this summer’s inaugural Bonavista Biennale, Art Encounters on the Edge, on Newfoundland’s Bonavista Peninsula. One of Canadian Art’s “20 Shows We Want to See in 2017”, the exhibition brings together contemporary works from 26 Newfoundland, other Canadian and Indigenous artists on the occasion of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
Curators Catherine Beaudette and Patricia Grattan have selected a broad representation of visual artists from across the country, some senior and internationally known, others emerging on Canada’s art scene. “Art Encounters places contemporary art in an historic rural setting, and shows the power of Canadian artists to give us new ways of seeing, illuminate the complexities of society and reflect our experiences at this moment in our history,” said Ms. Grattan. Works include painting, photography, outdoor sculpture installation, fibre, performance, sound and video.
Artists: Sara Angelucci, Omar Badrin, Jon Bath, Catherine Blackburn, Marlene Creates, Barbara Daniell, Michael Flaherty, Will Gill, Doug Guildford, Pam Hall, John Hartman, Iris Häussler, Dil Hildebrand, Matthew Hollett, Frank Lapointe, Elizabeth McIntosh, Steve Payne, Barry Pottle, Ned Pratt.
