TWENTY + CHANGE: NEXT GENERATION

February 27 – April 9, 2017
Idea Exchange Art + Design | Design at Riverside Gallery
7 Melville Street S., Cambridge, ON

Opening: Monday, February 27, 6:30pm

UWSA Arriscraft Lecture: UUfie – Recent Projects: Thursday, March 23, 6:00pm
(co-presented by Waterloo Architecture and Idea Exchange, Design at Riverside)

Twenty + Change, founded in 2007, is an ongoing exhibition and publication series dedicated to promoting emerging designers working in architecture, landscape architecture and urban design in Canada. As the fourth edition of the series, NEXT GENERATION presents a litmus of concerns and approaches across the country as represented by 13 emerging practices from Vancouver to St. John's.

Selected by a curatorial committee of noted educators, authors, and practitioners, these projects display a level of invention or a degree of risk-taking. Many emerging firms are taking on the role of designer and builder. Some are also taking on the role of client, developing their own commissions in order to experiment with new ideas. A number of these firms have overcome considerable obstacles such as restrictive budgets, conventional preconceptions or challenging sites and climates. Young firms are often more nimble, able to take greater risks and push experimentation; in forging a different path than many of their predecessors, this generation of designers is exploring the potential for architecture to transform society.
