The City of Saskatoon invites artists to submit project applications for the 2017 Placemaker Program in the Downtown, Broadway and Riversdale Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).

The mandate of the Placemaker Program is to add significance to civic spaces by engaging the public to promote contemporary art practices through temporary public art. Public art refers to artwork that has been planned and executed in the public domain, in any media, that is visible and accessible to all. Other objectives of the Placemaker Program are to make contemporary arts more accessible to the general public, to promote the relational importance of place, and to transform public spaces in Saskatoon.

Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • emerging media and audio-visual installations;
  • participatory or experiential works that foster links between people and place;
  • place-based performance pieces;
  • conceptual re/design of open public space;
  • site-specific interventions that enhance the urban realm;
  • existing work in the artist’s possession or proposed new work.

To apply to the 2017 Placemaker Program please refer to the City of Saskatoon’s Public Art website. For more information please contact Jonathan Epp, Landscape Architect with the City of Saskatoon’s Urban Design team, at jonathan.epp@saskatoon.ca or 306.986.1666.

Budget: $15,000 per BID
Deadline: 5:00pm, March 29, 2017
