Harbourfront Centre Craft & Design
Artist-in-Residence Program

Application deadline: Friday, March 10, 2017

Craft & Design at Harbourfront Centre is a unique Canadian institution that assists recent graduates in establishing professional careers. The Craft & Design Studio is the only post-graduate national training facility for craftspeople, recognized by Canadian Heritage.

Craft & Design offers Residencies in five disciplines:

  • Ceramics
  • Design
  • Glass
  • Metal/Jewellery
  • Textiles

Term of Residency:

  • Annual: One year contract for recent graduates, renewable up to three years.
  • Summer: Three-month scholarship contract for full-time, returning students.

What does it mean to be a Harbourfront Centre Artist-in-Residence?

The main goal of the Craft & Design Artist-in-Residence program is to assist emerging designers and makers in embarking on professional careers.

To that end, full-time Artists-in-Residence have 24-hour access to the Harbourfront Centre Craft & Design Studio and the equipment needed to design and make functional and/or non-functional work.

Each discipline is guided by a Business Advisory Council and two volunteer, professional Artistic Advisers who provide advice and offer critiques and suggestions about career direction and work development.

Furthermore, Craft & Design organizes events with national and international artists and professionals such as lectures, workshops, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions.

Artists-in-Residence may have the opportunity to exhibit their work in one of the many on-site venues.

Artists-in-Residence also have the opportunity to teach classes to the public.
