On Now at the Winnipeg Art Gallery
Join us for the opening of two exhibits demonstrating how art, culture, and land intersect.
Public Opening: TONIGHT, November 18, 7pm • Free
Featuring a skateboarding demo by Winnipeg’s Red Riding Media
Boarder X brings together contemporary work by Indigenous artists who use snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing to exhibit knowledge and relationships to the land. Featuring work by: Jordan Bennett, Roger Crait, Steven Davies, Mark Igloliorte, Mason Mashon, Meghann O’Brien, and Les Ramsay.
Vernon Ah Kee: cantchant connects surfboards and video with Australian Aboriginal territory. Ah Kee’s boards reflect traditional shield designs in the colours of the Australian Aboriginal flag, and on the flip side, beautifully drawn portraits of family.
