ON NEWSSTANDS NOW: CAROUSEL 37

CAROUSEL is pleased to announce its latest 88 page issue — featuring art, fiction, poems, and hybrid works by Matt Davey, Danielle Dutton, Justin Gordon, Lee Hannigan, Derek McCormack, Devon McFarland, Steve Meagher, Eric Schmaltz, Justin Stephenson, James J. Stevenson, Mallory Tater, Jon Vaughn, Christine Walde and Liz Worth, along with the following feature articles:

Emily Fitzpatrick pens a feature on St. Catharines-based aboriginal/new generation artist Maggie Groat, a creator exploring possible futures, alternative and marginalized ways-of-knowing, and relationships and reconnections to place, all from a hybrid Indigenous/Settler perspective.

Marc Ngui interviews comic artist Anders Nilsen about his practice and his recent publication, the eclectic and formally inventive Poetry is Useless (Drawn & Quarterly) — Nilsen is the author of Big Questions (Lynd Ward Prize for Graphic Novel of the Year, 2012) and co-founder of Autoptic, a bi-annual festival of independent comics and art culture.

For our international spotlight, Mark Laliberte looks at the work of L.A.-based artist Richard Kraft, whose recently released Here Comes Kitty: A Comic Opera (Siglio Press) is a radical collage-comic that orchestrates a multiplicity of voices into joyous cacophony; Kraft’s practice is discussed through a long-form interview.

In the 11th 4PANEL Supplement, our ever-popular comics section, we feature 16 new strips by Mark Connery, Erin Curry, William Davison, d.w., Drazen Kozjan, Richard Kraft, Mark Laliberte, Aaron Linton, Billy Mavreas, Marc Ngui, Luke Ramsey, Ethan Rilly, Anuj Shrestha, Fiona Smyth, Jon Vaughn and Georgia Webber that creatively explore the four-panel comics format in a formal, experimental, literary context.

About CAROUSEL
CAROUSEL is an exquisitely produced bi-annual hybrid literary + arts magazine focused on promoting a full range of Canadian talent within an increasingly borderless, contemporary context. We actively seek new/emerging voices and strive to position them directly alongside established artists without applying a sense of hierarchy. The journal dedicates equal space to word & image; we offer an open environment emphasizing the creative investigation of art and literary forms, and, in particular, their new-genre overlaps.
